Ronald Fountain

Ronald Savage Fountain, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, was abandoned at birth to two parents struggling in poverty and with addiction. He was taken in and raised by a single “grandmother” figure who reared, and adopted him as her son. She was a working class woman of faith who encouraged Ronald to receive his education in the public schools of Baltimore City and Richmond, Virginia. During his childhood, Ronald was sexually molested, introduced to illegal drugs, struggled with his sexuality, was diagnosed with mental illness, and had numerous encounters with the penal system. After years of trying to escape his painful realities and experiences with self-destructive behavior, Ronald discovered a pathway of recovery through his faith in God and his involvement in many communities of coaches. Today he is a student of life and a teacher by experience. He instructed individuals at the Richmond Correctional Jail in the GED program. He is a co-author of the book Writing Our Way Out: Memoirs from Jail. Presently, he is employed as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist at the Bon Secours Health System New Hope Treatment Center, a peer-led and run program that utilizes individuals from the local communities. He is pursuing studies at various institutions, and models himself as an Inspirational Leader and Motivational Speaker. He is an active member of the Greater Gethsemane Baptist Church in Baltimore, and serves on various ministries. Ronald also is working to establish a peer-run organization within the inner-city of Baltimore.
